I have always loved Ted Talks — short, to the point presentations packed with thought provoking ideas and useful information. The Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers implemented its version in the form of CHART Talks. I had the honor to share my thoughts on how Social Media is impacting the Leadership Skills needed for the workplace. You can also read more in my previous blog post. What other leadership skills do you think we will need to be… Continue Reading »

Over the years, I have collected a number of things: books, cranberry glass, nutcrackers, Christmas ornaments, Wedgewood (specifically that beautiful dark blue), art supplies, milk glass, family heirlooms and prints from my travels to name (quite) a few. I enjoy the process of seeking out new and unusual places to find something to add to each collection, the excitement of finding the perfect addition, enjoying them in my home and knowing there is a story behind each of them. Without… Continue Reading »

Last week I had the opportunity to hear Ty Bennett speak on the Power of Influence at CHART’s 86th Hospitality Training Leadership Conference in Miami. Although there were many “take aways” from his presentation, I was most struck by the video he shared — “Lost Generation”. It is both thought provoking and inspiring. We all have the power to influence and affect positive change. We need to invest and show interest in people. Be present, ask questions and listen. There… Continue Reading »

An organization’s brand is like a coin…it has two sides. One is focused externally on the value created for their customer and the other is focused internally on the value created for their employees – your Employee Value Proposition (EVP). Your EVP articulates the mix of offerings and opportunities an employee will experience throughout the Employee Lifecycle that will differentiate your company from your competitors, in return for what the employee contributes. Just as we want to create that emotional… Continue Reading »
