2020 LESSONS LEARNING
Like all of us, I am not sad to see 2020 come to an end. One year, 12 months, 365 days, 8760 hours, 525,600 minutes. It has brought heartache and loss but is that all we should remember and take with us? As important as it is to honor the loss, I would feel an additional sense of loss if I didn’t stop and reflect on the lessons of 2020. What have I learned? What will I take with me into 2021?
- In joyful and especially hard times, we are not alone.
- The goodness in others outweighs the bad.
- Put kindness and compassion first. Everyone has a story and may be going through something we don’t know about.
- Self-care is important! I have always thought of myself as someone who handles challenges and bounces back. There were some times this year when it all felt overwhelming. Exercise, eat well and get enough sleep.
- An afternoon nap is a beautiful thing and…it is ok to take one.
- Take time to connect with others – in groups and individually.
- Don’t hesitate to call an old friend or check in on a colleague you haven’t spoken to in a while. It’s always a good time to do so.
- Reach out to someone you don’t know very well and get to know them.
- Focus on what you have and not what you don’t have. Gratitude creates abundance!
- Tap into your adaptability, resourcefulness and resilience. They are skills that will always serve us well.
- Take advantage of opportunity. With so many things changing, there was “found” time; hours/days I didn’t expect to have. I was able to focus on unfinished projects and spend long sought time pivoting my business.
- Focus appreciation on your accomplishments big and small. I started teaching an on-line class and I finally finished several home projects. I felt hugely accomplished with each of them.
- Get out of your comfort zone. Try something new. It always works out. Even it didn’t work out the way you hoped it would, it worked out because you tried and you learned something.
- Tell those you love, that you love them! Often!
- Mom was right! “This too shall pass!”
I will remember 2020 for ALL the lessons learned and take those with me into 2021!
Farewell 2020! There are better days ahead! Welcome 2021!
Lyrics to “Better Days” by the Goo Goo Dolls
And you asked me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we’ll find better days
‘Cause I don’t need boxes wrapped in strings
And designer love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we’ll find better days
So take these words and sing out loud
‘Cause everyone is forgiven now
‘Cause tonight’s the night the world begins again
I need some place simple where we could live
And something only you can give
And that’s faith and trust and peace while we’re alive
And the one poor child who saved this world
And there’s ten million more who probably could
If we all just stopped and said a prayer for them
So take these words and sing out loud
‘Cause everyone is forgiven now
‘Cause tonight’s the night the world begins again
I wish everyone was loved tonight
And somehow stop this endless fight
Just a chance that maybe we’ll find better days
So take these words and sing out loud
‘Cause everyone is forgiven now
‘Cause tonight’s the night the world begins again
‘Cause tonight’s the night the world begins again!
